Online Safety Workshop for Schools and Educational Establishments

In late 2014 BBC News reported how police forces across the UK were struggling to cope with the increasing numbers of children being targeted and abused online. Since then a steady stream of news has shown how the targeting, grooming and abuse of children online is the fastest growing area of crime in this country. Children are being exposed on a daily basis to issues of sexual abuse, indecent images, and radicalisation. For some children this has had fatal or long-lasting consequences. There are also other concerns around the amount of time children spend online and the links to health consequences, digital footprints, and peer on peer abuse.

This 2-hour briefing considers what we currently know about how children use the internet and what the risks are; what practitioners can do to reduce those risks and raise awareness with children and their families; and where to go for further advice and to access resources.

Date: 4th February 2019 4pm – 6pm

Venue: BBIC, Innovation Way, Wilthorpe, Barnsley, S75 1JL
